Mystery of The Male God: An International Literary Evening

Writers Eeva Maria al-Khazaali and Henry al-Muthanna (US/SRB) will present Mystery of The Male God, a multilingual literary event at Tekstin talo in Helsinki. The evening brings together a novel reading, spoken word poetry, conversation between the authors, and an open mic for emerging voices.

The program explores themes of identity, language, power, and vulnerability through literature and performance. At the center of the event are excerpts from al-Khazaali’s novel The Male God and spoken word performances from al-Muthanna’s poetry collection Mystery of Misery.

The evening begins with a short interview about The Male God, followed by a reading by al-Khazaali. The authors will then switch roles, as al-Khazaali interviews al-Muthanna about his poetry. The program continues with a spoken word performance by al-Muthanna and concludes with a Q&A session.

After a short break, the stage opens to the public with a multilingual open mic hosted by al-Muthanna. Participants are invited to share poetry, short prose, or spoken word pieces in any language.

Kirjailijat Eeva Maria al-Khazaali ja Henry al-Muthanna (Yhdysvallat/Serbia) esittävät Mystery of The Male God -monikielisen kirjallisuustapahtuman Tekstin talossa Helsingissä. Illan ohjelma yhdistää romaanin lukemista, spoken word -runoutta, kirjailijoiden välistä keskustelua sekä open mic -osuuden nouseville äänille.

Ohjelma käsittelee identiteetin, kielen, vallan ja haavoittuvuuden teemoja kirjallisuuden ja esityksen kautta. Tapahtuman keskiössä ovat otteet al-Khazaalin romaanista The Male God sekä al-Muthannan runokokoelmaan Mystery of Misery perustuvat spoken word -esitykset.

Ilta alkaa lyhyellä haastattelulla romaanista The Male God, jota seuraa al-Khazaalin lukuesitys. Tämän jälkeen kirjailijat vaihtavat rooleja, kun al-Khazaali haastattelee al-Muthannaa hänen runoudestaan. Ohjelma jatkuu al-Muthannan spoken word -esityksellä ja päättyy yleisökysymyksiin (Q&A).

Lyhyen tauon jälkeen lava avautuu yleisölle monikielisessä open mic -osuudessa, jonka juontaa al-Muthanna. Osallistujia kutsutaan jakamaan runoutta, lyhyttä proosaa tai spoken word -esityksiä millä tahansa kielellä.
