Born in Paris in 1994, Aliha Thalien holds a master's degree in cinema from La Sorbonne, a master's degree in visual arts from the Fine Arts School in Paris, and a post-graduate diploma from Le Fresnoy — national studio of contemporary arts in Tourcoing. She has developed a practice of cinema, sound, photography, installation and sculpture around memory and language, and explores questions of identity and territory in relation to her Caribbean heritage. Her subjects of research revolve around the intimate, family ties, friendship and love through a broader questioning about the state of the world and issues of identity. Her work has been shown in international exhibitions and film festivals at venues such as the Photographic Center of Marseille, MoMA (New York), Frappant Galerie (Hambourg), Galerie in extenso (Clermont-Ferrand) and La Grande Halle de la Villette (Paris).
body double in blue, 15 minutes
In memoriam of Bill Dillworth, long-time caretaker of Walter De Maria's Earth Room. The causality of American violence, imminent immigration, expectant birth, the waterways of Helsinki, and nascent forays into the Finnish language animate this piece.
Asiya Wadud is a writer (and occasional performer), most recently of the poetry collections Mandible Wishbone Solvent, No Knowledge Is Complete Until It Passes Through My Body and the chapbook like threadlove. like rubble. like excess. Some recent work can be found in Interlude Docs, POETRY, e-flux journal and the Danspace Project Journal.
Collage
‘Collage’ is a poetry installation that incites community writing. A poem – an ode to memory – that first chronicles the poet’s recollections, becomes the canvas for mutual reminiscence. The installation creates space for the possibilities of a cross-cultural story, crafted by both the poet and the audience– establishing collective authorship.
Ofem Ubi is a poet & artist from Nigeria whose practice is an interworking of poetry and visual art. Ubi’s oeuvres highlight his interest in the subject of memory and its manifestation beyond the boundaries of the written word.
Ink – Listening to the bookshelf
Once printed, there’s no longer Cmd+Z.
Ink explores the permanence of printed matter and the temporality of digital media. Discarded risograph ink tubes and recycled printing pipes reveal the unheard sounds of the bookmaking process, resonating and murmuring softly.
Sculpture collaboration with Aliha Thalien using second hand clay.
Heu Hsu is a sound artist based in Helsinki, experimenting with the possibilities of text-based narratives in new forms. Her sound search across Japan took shape as a handcrafted book, Sound Chronicle. After a decade in Tokyo, Heu’s work has evolved into spatial compositions, instrument building, and performances. She focuses on site-specific work and the relationships between sound, materiality, and cultural landscapes.
Tekstilaboratorio #2
Tekstilaboratorio on Tekstin talon kansainvälinen ryhmäresidenssiprojekti kirjailijoille ja muille tekstin parissa työskenteleville taiteilijoille. Projektin ideana on kokeilla ja etsiä uusia tapoja tuoda tekstikulttuuria yleisön koettavaksi. Toinen residenssijakso on 14.7.–24.8.25. Jakson lopputulokset esitetään osana Runokuun ohjelmistoa 20. elokuuta Tekstin talossa. Runokuun järjestää Nuoren Voiman Liitto lukuisten yhteistyökumppaneiden kanssa.
The House of Text has established the Text Laboratory: a working residency program for writers and other artists working with text funded by the Alfred Kordelin foundation. The aim of the project is to test and find new ways to bring works of text culture to audiences, potentially broadening the definition of what text culture can mean.
The second Text Laboratory takes place from 14 July to 24 August 2025. The results of this residency are presented as part of the Runokuu Literary Festival on 20 August 2025.
