Decolonial Dates – Decolonization in Context
Reading groups - facilitated by Vishnu Vardhani Rajan and Pie Kär - explore the question, "What constitutes the 'de-' in the process of decolonization within the context of Finland?" These discussions aim to conceptualize and implement decolonization within Finland's cultural landscape.
The reading group is for readers with different needs. We read aloud, pause, reflect, re-read and engage in a collective conversation to address the thoughts that arise during the reading.
To keep the reading circle intimate and for the sake of having privacy in sharing thoughts we have the No Zoom Option and for the same reason we would like you to pre-register to the reading circle.

The reading group’s first text is Maya Goodfellow’s Hostile Environment: How immigrants became scapegoats. We will start reading from chapter 2, as we have read chapter 1 in two meetings last Spring. You can join even if you have not read chapter 1. We meet to discuss supported by the book, to challenge the European anti-immigration myths.
We hold the reading circle meetings offline—in physical space and time—in Helsinki, at Tekstin talo’s library on the 4th floor (Lintulahdenkatu 3) aimed at collectively engaging with selected reading material related to situated and discursive struggles.
What else to expect:
We may not be able to fully read the book together.
We will have printouts of the book’s chapters.
We would like to know if you’re coming so please put your name down in the list on Doc-Link.
